Blaugust – Day 22
Release the floodgates
Last night during the latest FFXIV Live Letter the developers started giving information on the upcoming patch 3.1 to get everyone salivating at the idea of what’s to come. There was interesting stuff announced and before analyzing the juicier bits it’s worth remembering that this is only “part 1” of the patch coverage – the second half will come in the Tokyo Game Show (mid September).
Where the battle takes us
Two new dungeons were revealed and one of them is a Hard Mode (HM) version of a previous dungeon: Pharos Sirius. I would have expected them to do a HM version out of one of the Heavensward dungeons but I am not complaining! Pharos was an incredible dungeon (with one of the best music tracks).
The other is a new dungeon called The Arboretum and it looks to be a big building that we can currently see in the Hinterlands. I wonder what will we find there?
Finally the new 24-man raid was announced as the Void Ark. It is indeed that ship that mysteriously floats in the sky and can be randomly seen in the new areas. What’s interesting is that the concept art of it makes it seem like its hull is made of tombs or caskets. Its reason or lore has obviously not been revealed yet.
They surely don’t joke around, even when they are trying to joke around. What started as an April’s Fool joke has been turned to reality and we are getting minion (pet) battles. It’ll be a Gold Saucer attraction and apparently it’ll be an RTS-style game. “Lord of Virminion“.
I’m curious to see how this will turn out. While my mind instantly turned to Pokémon and World of Warcraft’s pet battle system, apparently it’ll play in a different style. Also, as part of the Gold Saucer, it’ll surely have no impact in your adventuring ways and only provide fun and glamour rewards. I don’t mind! New ways to obtain MGP are always welcome!
There was other stuff mentioned like the new TP bars that will now show up in the party window (to the joy of Ninjas everywhere). New areas, accessible via airship, to explore and do battle (and gathering) in. Old mounts that are technically capable of flying (such as the Ahriman) will be able to do so in Ishgard areas. Also the new relic quest is planed to start in either 3.1 or 3.15; please look forward to it.
There was also a census of players and habits: race and sex distribution, market board items, gatherer’s favorites and many more. There are Reddit galleries about that so I’ll just link them so you can have fun reading those.
And as always there was a post-letter article in the official forums with the gist of it all from the admins, so be sure to check that out.
For now we wait until TGS where we’ll surely get additional info and most likely a release date!
